Jennifer Gersten

Jennifer Gersten is a violinist and writer from Queens, New York. Winner of the 2018 Rubin Institute Prize for Music Criticism, granted by leading American music critics for "exceptional promise” in the field, she is a freelance journalist and critic, often on contemporary music, for The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Rolling Stone, among other publications. Jennifer was a 2022-23 Fulbright grantee to Norway for research on Norwegian contemporary experimental music, and she currently lives in Sweden, where she is a section violin trialist with Helsingborg Symfoniorkester and pursues solo and collaborative new music projects, some of which received an honorable mention for Darmstadt Ferienkurse’s 2023 Kranichsteiner Musikpreis. She is completing a doctorate in violin performance at Stony Brook University.
